Pioneertown & Joshua Tree

Join us as we venture through the breathtakingly beautiful desert of Southern California, visiting Pioneertown and reflecting on the unique style of landscape and homes. The desert spirit provides endless inspiration, whether you’re styling a historic building or an ultra-modern architectural destination among the cacti.

Remember when we slept under the stars in Joshua Tree… The drive was long and we were in the middle of nowhere…  There was a crazy chill in the air that cut through my bones as I stepped out into the desert.  But then, the magic happened and all of the dust and exhaustion of our long drive into the desert fell away and peace ensued.  We built a fire on the deck and watched the sun slip away and the desert stars took their place on the stage, wooing us with their beauty and infinite wisdom.  You were cold, so I lay that insanely soft blanket across you…I remember you wanted to take it home with you.  We cracked open that bottle of wine…

We’ve been working hard over the past year to restore the historic property to its original character. The materials and texture of the building itself make the rooms feel more like cozy lodge than typical motel rooms.

LUXE PROVISIONS: TELL US ABOUT RUNNING A HOTEL IN THE DESERT…

Matt French: The most fun is meeting the guests and hearing their stories.  In a given night we’ll have people coming out from LA to see a show at Pappy's, older guys riding Harleys, photographers here to explore Joshua Tree, and tourists from Europe here to wander around the desert. There’s a sensibility to the desert that opens these different walks of life to connect in a special way and it’s really fun to be part of that.

LP: WHAT SORT OF ACTIVITIES ARE AROUND THE HOTEL?

MF: The desert is a place to clear your mind & be one with nature, which breeds a spirit of adventure and creativity.  Hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, ATV’s, photography, and stargazing are all easy to do from the property, & guests always like to check out local shops, visit the Integratron, and hang out at Pappy and Harriets.
